Possibly useful for personal trainers and advanced bodybuilders, others should give it a pass. Doesn’t work on Kindle device.

What do you get for a hundred bucks? Basically web bibliography pointing to articles the author has written for sites like testosterone nation.
Should that matter? Well, organizing and presenting that online material in a systematic way in theory has value, the problem is that so much of that material is written in bodybuilder jargon, e.g. ” Using a traditional hip hinge like the RDL or the stiff-leg deadlift, work the descent of the movement with increased time under eccentric loading,” or “… just think of turning the dumbbell shrug movement into a mosh pit at a Slip Knot concert. Don’t be that guy.” This certainly *sounds* like useful device, but for $100 I expect an author to put a little more effort into explaining himself, especially as he’s pitched the “book” as being useful to people with only modest levels of experience.
This book has basically no illustrations or explanations; just a bunch of links to web articles/videos along with a few terse notes on proper execution that are likely only useful to someone already very familiar with the exercises. In some cases the advice requires the assistance of a personal trainer to execute (e.g. finding out exactly how far you can safely squat based on your personal anatomy with the aid of a goniometer).
Given that the Amazon description suggests this is (a) a book and (b) useful to people with only basic levels of experience, I’d be inclined to give it one star. However I’m giving it an additional star as benefit of the doubt; it seems like something that might be useful to a few people. I suggest that you google “John Rusin” on the site t-nation dot com. If these articles are useful to you individually, paying $100 to have them organized into some semblance of a program is probably a good deal. For most people it’s an absurd amount of money to pay to be pointed to a bunch of web articles that probably won’t mean much to them.
One final point: the ebook production values are extremely crude. It is in “Print Replica” format, which is basically just a dump of a printout (badly typeset) and DOES NOT WORK on a Kindle device — not that that really matters since the real content is actually on the web in formats the Kindle can’t handle. However the book doesn’t work on the web reader either, and is extremely awkward to use on the Amazon Kindle app for Android (the links are at the bottom of the page and so attempting to access them most of the time 8/10 times brings up the page browser UI instead — very frustrating). Basically it’s only convenient to use in Amazon’s desktop reader app for Mac or PC. For the price, and given the academic qualifications of the author, I was expecting an superbly produced book, not what seems more like a printout of someone’s class notes.

Solid book with no “bs.”

It was a good book with all of the fundamentals one needs to get great results in their fitness program based on their goals. A nice chapter on dietary advice helps the novice understand calories in relation to their personal goals as well. Being a personal trainer for over eight years, I was very pleased with this book and would recommend it to my clients.
